Imhotep Alagidede is a visionary entrepreneur in publishing. He is a distinguished Metaeconomist at the Nile Valley Multiversity, Professor of Finance at the University of the Witwatersrand, and the Bank of Ghana Chair in Finance and Economics at the University of Ghana. He is also the Executive Director of AREF Consult and serves as Emeritus Editor-in-Chief of the African Review of Economics and Finance (AREF). With over two decades of experience in teaching, research, and policy evaluation, Imhotep has made significant contributions to applied economics, modeling, and forecasting, with a research focus on integrating indigenous knowledge and modern technology.
Imhotep's contributions to academic publishing are groundbreaking. As the founding editor of six influential academic journals, including the International Review of Philanthropy and Social Investment, the Journal of Indigenous and Shamanic Studies (JISS), the Ghanaian Journal of Economics (GJE), and the Journal of African Political Economy and Development (JAPED), he has been instrumental in creating platforms that amplify African scholarship. His ventures have not only provided outlets for rigorous academic research but have also redefined how research on Africa and by Africans is disseminated globally. His editorial work emphasizes open science and the democratization of knowledge, ensuring that research serves as a public good.
Imhotep’s entrepreneurial spirit extends to the publishing industry through his company, Porthologos Press, which pioneers innovative and alternative publishing standards. By building networks that support new models of research communication, he is advancing open access and enhancing the visibility of African scholarship. His tenure as a Non-Executive Director at African Journals Online (AJOL) and adherence to the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) standards further demonstrate his commitment to excellence in academic publishing.
Through his leadership in journal creation and publishing, Imhotep Alagidede has expanded opportunities for African and global scholars to engage with new knowledge systems, blending tradition and innovation in research dissemination. His work ensures that African voices remain central to global academic discourse.
